If the type of microbial contamination is unknown it becomes a game of chance to select the most effective biocide. To be efficacious the applied biocide must target the actually present microbes.

Once the types of microbes are known, once the causes of the microbial growth are properly analysed, and the proper solutions are tested both in long and short-time experiments, we can pinpoint the right preservative and determine the most efficient way to use them without overkill or costly failures.
